Your water filtration system is only as good as its filters. Over time, filter cartridges become saturated with the very contaminants they are designed to capture. Once a filter is full, it stops working — and in some cases, it can begin to release trapped contaminants back into your water.
For whole-home systems, we recommend replacing sediment and carbon filters every 12 months, or after 100,000 litres of water has passed through — whichever comes first. Reverse osmosis membranes typically last 2–3 years, while the pre- and post-filters around them should be changed every 6–12 months.
Signs that your filters need replacing include a return of chlorine taste or odour, reduced water pressure, or visible discolouration. If you are on tank water or in an area with high sediment, you may need to replace filters more frequently.
Waterly offers a subscription filter replacement service that ships new cartridges to your door when they are due, along with a reminder to book a technician if you prefer professional installation. You can also replace most filters yourself — our systems are designed for easy DIY swaps with no special tools required.
